Acknowledgment
The idea of making this book was born from the need to recognize and show the
world the reality of many indigenous communities in the Amazon, which day by day
struggle not to disappear. Many of them face political and social problems that force
them to abandon their lands, causing the weakening of their culture, customs and
beliefs.
Doing it from a distance and in the midst of a pandemic was challenging, however,
thanks to many public and private organizations that are dedicated to protecting
and informing about Latin American indigenous communities, this research became
more friendly. Therefore, I thank ONIC (National Indigenous Organization of Colombia),
SIAT-AC (Territorial Environmental Information System of the Colombian Amazon),
OPIAC (National Organization of Indigenous Peoples of the Colombian Amazon),
GAIA Foundation and the Sinchi Institute for the valuable information posted on their
websites, where I spent hours scrutinizing about these communities.
I must also acknowledge the admirable legacy that Wade Davis, (Canadian
anthropologist, ethnobotanist and author), has brought to our society. Narrating
through books, documentaries, photographs and investigations, stories of his mentors
and his own experiences lived in the Amazon jungle, which generate a wonderful
imaginary of a magical habitat beyond the mountains.
Additionally, I highlight the work of many
international organizations such as Amazon watch,
Amazon Aid, among others, which recognize the
value of protecting the Amazon region, through
donations and campaigns where the initiative is
based on creating awareness about the existence
and vulnerability of these indigenous peoples
and our responsibility as living beings on earth, to
protect them.
I dream of living in a world where each person is
aware and proudly carries their ROOTS, those that
led them to where they are, where the wisdom and
respect that our ancestors left us prevail, to live in
harmony and gratitude on mother earth.
